A bit about me
Bringing maths to life
Hi, I'm Stephen. Originally from Scotland 🏴 I now live in Kraków, Poland 🇵🇱.
I am currently in Year 2 of a Maths and its Learning Honours degree with the Open University 📜 and recently learned modern teaching strategies at Edinburgh University. But, the best way to really master a subject is to teach it - so here I am!
I worked for 20 years in the UK as a Chartered Accountant and business advisor 📈 and helped hundreds of clients achieve their goals. But I recently gave all that up to return to my first love ❤️ - my passion for Mathematics 📐.
My approach to teaching maths is much the same as for teaching English (I'm also a TEFL qualified teacher). Mathematics is after all, another language. Another way to make sense of, to model, the world around us. We don't learn a language by memorising rules in isolation, but by exploring and interacting with it. The same is true of maths.
I use real-life examples as much as possible to show you that maths is not some abstract, out of reach concept, but rather, all around you, just waiting to be discovered!🔎 No endless, repetitive questions, or learning mathematical formulae by heart. No. I want you to understand maths 🧠.
My lessons are tailored to your learning goals. Just let me know what you would like me to cover and I promise to do my best to help find a way that makes maths "click" for you 💡. All I ask from your side is an open mind and a commitment to "stick with it" 💪.
Over the years I have built a wide range of learning resources, including games, puzzles, brain-teasers and other mathematical curiosities 🤔. So, as well as solving real-world problems, we'll have fun along the way! I teach using a tablet and stylus, with all the workings visible in real time 😊.
